"Dionysus and the Tyrrhenean pirates"
2025
Oil on 50x40cm Canvas
During a holiday in the Aegean islands Dionysus had a somewhat surprising experience. It all began innocently enough when he suddenly noticed a boat coming in his direction. It cast anchor and the people came ashore. initially they seemed very agreeable but turned out to be pirates. so they captured him and took him back to the boat and set sail, where he remained calm and collected. When you’re a god after all you’re not particularly impressed by pirates, especially stupid pirates, who don’t know the difference between a god and a mortal. They tried to tie him up in many different ways, but he always broke loose as if by magic. Only the helmsman had the sense to realise the truth, “it’s an Olympian! let him go before it’s too late!” it was too late…!
